Zimbabwe: Female Condom Use Remains Low

The uptake of the female condom remains low compared to male condoms as women fail to negotiate safe sex, the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council says. Speaking during a journalists' training seminar recently, ZNFPC marketing and public relations officer Mr Simon Chikwizo said comprehensive condom programming was needed to ensure HIV prevention in Zimbabwe.

Nigeria: New Female Condom Will Boost Reproductive Health of Women - UNFPA

The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) says the use of the female condom will boost the reproductive health of women. The UNFPA Deputy Representative, Dr. Bannet Ndyanabangi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the new female condom being introduced would provide overall health enhancement for the women.

A tough sell: The female condom

Washington, D.C. is telling women to "get turned onto it," already. "It" being the female condom. A campaign kicks off Thursday with the premiere of a website and 460 randy bus ads that advertise the new female condom's "pleasure points," which are meant to "tease, please and protect." The promotional push joins a campaign underway since March to handout 500,000 female condoms in the area.

Several days a week she stands behind a table decorated with a bowl of flavored condoms and safer sex pamphlets, calling to women passing on the street, "Come check out my table. Don't be scared." She asks: "Have you heard of the female condom?" Then, to show how it works, she picks up her demonstration kit - a condom and anatomical models.
