Comprehensive Condom Programming Champions Training in Swaziland
Mbabane, Swaziland / December 17, 2009
From December 15-19, 2009, twenty representatives of diverse civil society organizations from Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland gathered outside of Mbabane, Swaziland for an intensive, four-day workshop on comprehensive condom programming and advocacy skills. Sponsored by UNFPA, and facilitated by CHANGE and CEDPA, the workshop raised advocacy skills among this elite group of condom “champions,” heightened awareness among donors and government decision makers, built important relationships among civil society and UNFPA networks, and resulted in four well developed country plans for CCP advocacy projects.
Participants were selected through a very competitive application process, with applications distributed by UNFPA country offices, members of the Civil Society Advocacy Working Group, and CHANGE staff. A committee of CHANGE and CEDPA staff made the selections based on each applicant’s experience, commitment to CCP advocacy, and institutional support. The selected participants represented youth serving organizations, a women’s disability group, international NGOs, community organizations, and faith-based groups.
